Sony Award winning Allan Beswick presents the eponymous Late Night Phone In on BBC Radios Lancashire and Manchester between 10 and 1 Monday to Thursday. His first foray into radio forty years ago when he joined Radio City in Liverpool as a para-legal phone in presenter and loved it so much that he has been ‘on the radio’ ever since. In that time he has presented for Metro Radio in Newcastle, a station in Melbourne, Australia, BBC Radio Cumbria, BBC Radio 5Live and made a number of documentaries for BBC Radio 4. He joined BBC Radio Manchester about thirty years ago to present the breakfast programme and since then has presented mid-morning, lunch-time and for six years until early in 2015 breakfast once again; his programme at whatever time of day had the largest day time audience.
Beswick’s television work has included various films for BBC North West Tonight and Granada TV and he was a regular contributor to BBC 1’s very successful Sunday Morning magazine programme Heaven and Earth. He has worked for Sky TV and for two years was the face of Beswick’s Beat on BBC TV in the north-west where he helped viewers to resolve their consumer problems by ‘chasing down’ those they felt had ‘done them a wrong’.
Before broadcasting he had a varied career during which he was a soldier, driving instructor, psychiatric nurse and Citizens Advice Bureau manager. This gives him anecdotes aplenty for his Beswick At Large stage show, he is an accomplished after dinner speaker and an excellent chair of meetings and corporate compere.
