One of the first–ever voices on BBC Radio Five Live, this former World in Action investigator is best known as the face of Politics, Current-Affairs and News on Granada Television and ITV over several decades.
He has broken exclusive stories and conducted headline grabbing interviews across Granada TV, ITN, ITV, and Channel Four and in the press and on radio.
He has hosted his own talk shows on commercial radio as well as launching ‘Weekend Breakfast’ ‘Morning Reports’ and other news and magazine programmes on Five Live.
He re-launched ‘Granada Reports’ on screen with Lucy Meacock; hosted ‘Granada Tonight’ as well as election and political programmes such as the ground-breaking ‘The Spin’; the first text-message version of ‘Question Time’ called ‘The Last Word’ and the fast pace and lively ‘Party People’ from 2005-15 becoming ITV’s longest serving political presenter.
He has appeared on ‘News at Ten’ ‘Channel Four News’ and other ITN programmes with startling exclusive stories.
In 2015, he grabbed ‘Scoop of the Year’ in the O2 Media Awards for an ITV political exclusive which made headlines for days and in the same year was appointed an OBE for ‘Services to Broadcasting’.
He has made specials with the UK’s leading politicians from David Cameron, Nigel Farage to George Osborne and has been described as ‘One of the most respected interviewers on TV’. Rob has also hosted Arts, Entertainment and created unique Sports specials for TV.
Famed for a quick wit and spontaneity he has hosted events across the UK and Europe, recently helping to raise more than £490,000 in one night in Manchester for charity (auctioning off Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville for lunch! And even Peter Kay at a separate event which raised £185,000) and has facilitated business conferences for major organisations.
A popular guest and newspaper reviewer on programmes such as BBC Breakfast, Rob has appeared on a multitude of radio and TV stations at home and abroad.
A member of Equity since aged 17, he appeared as himself in the Emmy award winning ‘The Street’ by Jimmy McGovern as well as on a range of TV shows including ‘A and E’ and ‘Coronation Street’.
Off-screen he united the RLPO and Halle for a TV and Radio spectacular, launched major charitable campaigns on ITV and quietly campaigns to bring more media outlets and productions to his home region of the North-West.
In a tie-up with Aintree, the most famous racecourse in the world, he has launched a superb 3D CGI Virtual Grand National race and a legends Race of Champions which debuted on ITV and online and recently followed Peter Hook’s Hacienda Classic tour for a Channel Four special.
